a few days ago an irl told me about how the alphabet is on the wrong order on the doctor who wiki because in one episode a character recites the alphabet backwards but gets two letters the wrong way around and there has been no other representation of the full alphabet in any other dw media so technically there’s no proof that it isn’t canon and i’ve been thinking about that ever since

image

not joking (U is supposed to come before V)

actually it gets funnier. there are multiple instances of parts of the alphabet being spoken in episodes. the problem is absolutely none of these have spoken that specific section since the episode that got the order wrong.

“During a speech on Sunday night, Donald Trump repeatedly spoke as if Barack Obama were the current president. It wasn’t the first time. In recent speeches, Trump has also claimed to have beaten both Obama and George W. Bush in 2016. That’s when he wasn’t promising to use irrigation ditches to bring water to bathrooms or keep California’s forests damp. It’s not that Trump hasn’t always been an egotistical, vindictive jackass with few concerns for whether his hateful, antisemitic, misogynistic, and racist rants had even a passing encounter with the truth. But this is different. In the 2024 campaign, and in the messages he posts to social media, Trump has been in a confused and addled state, one where he has frequently makes statements that are both incoherent and irreconcilable with reality. Still, did you hear that President Joe Biden made a “gaffe”? Sure you did. Because the media not only devotes heavy coverage to Biden’s every hesitation or stumble, it goes out of its way to create them even when they don’t exist. All to promote a narrative that Biden is old and losing his grip, while Trump is somehow vigorous. That narrative isn’t just a clear disservice; it’s a signal measure of how willing major media outlets are to coddle Trump, savage Biden, and keep the nation in the dark.”

Donald Trump is unraveling, and the media is covering it up

THIS!!

THIS IS AN AMAZING WAY TO THINK OF CHRONIC PAIN

I wanted to point out that Nurse Hadley, the woman in this video, is a hospice nurse. This is what people say to and about patients who don’t have long left to live. The fear of addiction and dependence on pain medication is so strong that people deny their literally dying family members proper pain management. You’re never going to please the “but what about addiction” people, ignore them and take the meds you need to function.

FEMA is doing an emergency alert test on all TVs, radios, and cell phones on October 4, 2023, at approximately 2:20pm ET.

If you live in the US and you have a phone you need to keep secret for any reason, make sure that it is turned off at this time.

Yes, I’m doing this months in advance, and yes, my blog has very little reach, but I figure better to post about it more than less.

Please reblog and add better tags than mine, I’m bad at tags.

OCTOBER 4, 2023

TURN OFF YOUR OTHER PHONE AND DO NOT TURN IT ON AGAIN UNTIL YOU ARE ALONE AND SAFE BECAUSE THE ALARM WILL COME THROUGH AS SOON AS THAT PHONE IS POWERED ON.

AGAIN I REPEAT:

OCTOBER 4, 2023

THE ALARM WILL COME THROUGH AS SOON AS THAT PHONE IS POWERED BACK ON.

SO ONLY POWER IT BACK ON WHEN IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.

OCTOBER 4, 2023

If this doesn’t make sense, then good news it’s not for or about you but still reblog it because you never know who may need to know this.

Reblog and add more tags.

reminder: if you’re getting an intramuscular injection (e.g. a covid booster or flu shot) and you’re above 200 lbs with estrogen-based body fat distribution or 260 lbs with testosterone-based body fat distribution, you should be requesting a 1.5-inch/38mm needle. you might want to print out this sheet and bring it with you, because I have had pharmacy employees blithely tell me the 1-inch needle is fine for everyone, and I find a clear directive from the CDC just makes life a little easier.

(this is one major reason why obesity is associated with so many negative health outcomes, btw—shit is not designed for us and providers are not educated about our needs, so we have to educate ourselves about appropriate care and then make special requests to receive that care just to get to the baseline chances of success straight-sized people have by default.)

thabk you so much “the cdc recommends” were magic words and they were absolutely gonna use a standard 1" on me

BTS of #RWRBMovie: NYE kiss

via Consequence:

It was important for Henry to be the grab-and-kiss-er in this scenario, Lopez says, because “there’s something very striking about a character such as Henry, who has spent up to that point in the film being very buttoned down and seemingly in control of his urges in that moment, losing the ability to control his urges and give into the desire to kiss Alex.”

Plus, there’s the additional context of Henry being literal royalty: “There’s something very sexy and romantic about a prince dropping his guard. And taking things that are old movie tropes and letting two boys do it — that was definitely the romantic gesture that we wanted to go for.”

Of course, on a practical level, the grab-and-kiss has certain practical elements to consider. “The only danger on set was that sometimes [Nicholas Galitzine] would come at [Taylor Zakhar Perez] so forcefully that they would just bang faces. We were really worried about fat lips and bloody noses,” he laughs.

It wasn’t just the passion of the actors that was an issue, but the terrain — according to Lopez, “they were on a slope. So Nick was going downhill.” (Passion with a little help from Newtonian physics.)

On set for this as well as the film’s other, more graphic scenes was intimacy coordinator Robbie Taylor Hunt, who oversaw shooting the kiss in two different ways: “We had one where Alex is completely taken by surprise and doesn’t respond to the kiss. And then we did Version B, where Alex is taken by surprise and then does respond to the kiss. Because I wasn’t quite sure what was going to work, so I gave myself the option of having both.”

Process-wise, this meant rehearsing both versions and then shooting different angles and framings, which means “those lads kissed easily like 40 or 50 times that night,” Lopez laughs. “There’s nothing like having to kiss someone 40 times in a row to really, really take the allure out of kissing.”

Parts of the country where self-service gas pumping is illegal.

I didn’t know about New Jersey’s law so imagine my shock when a pump jockey sprinted at my car and kicked my door shut when I tried to get out to get gas. I rolled down my window and asked him “Is there a law against pumping your own gas or something?” And he looked at me like I’M nuts and just said “…yes?”

okay but imagine this in the reverse. when i left new jersey as a driver for the first time and sat in my car for about ten minutes wondering where the attendant was until a nice man tapped on my window and just said the words “New Jersey?” and when I nodded he told me to get out of the car so he could teach me how to pump gas (and nicely didn’t laugh at me when I shot gas out of the nozzle across the side of my car).

me and the boys (all from new jersey) went on a road trip out of state and had to get gas and it ended up being sort of a Group Puzzle for the gang as we huddled around the gas pump and nozzle and tank and whatnot. just picture five people standing around the gas tank opening like its part of an escape room. it was very silly.

Justice 40

Joe Biden is boring and often bad at tooting his own horn, but by god, he is good at process.

Justice 40 is simple but powerful application of that. its a shift in how the executive branch works. 40% of money from a bunch of existing programs should go to census tracts that are overburdened with pollution, at higher risk for climate change, and have been historically underserved.

The shorthand here is basically “communities that don’t have enough internal resources to deal with long term problems”. So yes, communities that had been redlined for decades, ones that have Superfund sites, ones that have high rates of asthma from air pollution.

and this is by census tract. Not city. census tract. So parts of New York City qualify… but other parts don’t. And the city HAS to use the money in the targeted part. it doesn’t go into the communal pool. it’s for THAT tract specifically.

Also all land federally recognized as belonging to a Native American tribe and all Alaskan Native Villages qualify, specifically.

And again, this is for existing programs that are already running and have existing staff and budgets. They’re supposed to prioritize grants and projects for those areas specifically. And that’s everything from Department of Agriculture, to FEMA, to Labor, to Environmental Protection.

Does it instantly get rid of all the baked in racism from decades past? No, not even close. But it puts in a countermeasure that has a concrete and measurable goal to aim for rather than a nebulous “suck less.” even if the administration changes, many of those changes will stick.

And as things improve, some tracts may come off the list! Some may go on that weren’t there before!

You can see a map here. Blue highlighted tracts are “disadvantaged” so qualify for that extra assistance! Check and see if you live in one or part of your town does. Because if you’ve been hearing constantly “we can’t afford to fix X problem…” and you’re in that tract…. there’s money available. For you. Build that sidewalk, fix those lead pipes, get that brush truck your volunteer fire department has been asking for.

And tell your local officials that! “did you look at Justice 40 for funding”. And even if they’re doing their best, particularly people in little towns…. being a government official isn’t their full time job. They may have missed it. Just asking them about the program may suddenly open a world of possibilities.

#this is fascinating stuff!#the map has SO MUCH INFORMATION about specific risk factors#like i can zoom in and see WHY my census tract is considered ‘disadvantaged’#(historic underinvestment#+ high population density/lots of cars#+ minimal green space#+ lots of linguistically isolated communities#+ just literally so much lead paint#but NOT#say#high flooding risk#or serious risk of agricultural losses#fascinating stuff)

Okay, I am reblogging this from myself and copying my own tags, because it’s even COOLER than I thought!! it specifically pairs burdens with socioeconomic markers, and in order to qualified as 'disadvantaged’, a community has to be BOTH 'more likely than other communities to be dealing with this problem’ and 'less likely than other communities to be able to RESPOND to this problem’.

so for an example: my census tract is in the 93rd percentile for the presence of lead paint! because that’s what you get in older New England buildings! BUT because our overall poverty level is pretty low, we’re not actually considered 'disadvantaged’ on that metric - basically, yeah, we have a lot more lead paint than most places, but we also mostly have enough money to be able to deal with that.

On the other hand, we’re in the 97th percentile for 'linguistic isolation’ (aka having a ton of households where nobody over 14 speaks English well) AND we have a relatively high level of people who don’t have any education past high school, and that combination specifically is what has us considered 'disadvantaged’.

You can argue about what metrics should be paired together - and I’m sure people do - but it’s just a really interesting way of looking at a lot of complex and intersecting issues.

it’s not a horse themed gender reveal party. It’s a gender reveal party FOR A HORSE. I can’t even like imagine the life that would lead to hosting a gender reveal party for a not-yet-born horse. Think abt getting an invitation to this. the cis are at it again.

THIS IS THE BEST THING I HAVE READ ALL DAY

well this was a wild ride from start to finish

I knew before I googled that this was gonna be California and I was Not disappointed. The horse is TA Jullyens Lillyanna, she is an exceptionally fancy purebred Arabian.

https://www.varianarabians.com/recent-sales/ta-jullyens-lillyanna.html

Her price tag was $Car. $20k if I had to guess.

And the real kicker?

The revealed gender was wrong. #youhadonejob
